For me going out to eat is one of my favorite things. I detest cooking for my family. I love them dearly, but good lord, I hate cooking for them. When I go out, I want a meal that I didn’t cook, dishes I don’t wash, and a decent drink menu. As a mom I want there to be kids' menu that caters to their dino-nuggie and French fry connoisseur tastes. As a wife, I want a little elegance and romance that I can sneak in with my spouse. Not every place can fulfill each of my desires for the perfect dining experience, but it should at least touch on them. On March 17, 2022 my family and I went to Camelot for lunch.
First Impression
I was unsure what to expect when booking lunch at this cute B&B. The name is honestly what drew me to it, I mean, who doesn't want to visit Camelot? The building was cute, and the entry door had a castle vibe. The decor was a rustic stone, and wood with a fireplace in the main dining hall. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon, so it was not crowded at all, and we were seated immediately. There were 2-4 person round tables, a bar section, and bench seating. We were seated at a corner bench seat. The staff was really friendly. Our server, Brianna was super friendly even when my daughter told her stories about how when she's feeling sick, everyone tells her she is whining. Through out lunch my middle son continued to ask how the fire alarm works, while mocking as if he was going to pull it, and Brianna remained kind, and understanding the entire time. It is an amazing feeling as a parent, when your kids are being kids, that you meet understanding and kindness instead of judgement.
Dining Experience
Brianna took our orders swiftly, and food was brought out without delay. The lunch menu consisted of a few appetizers, salads, flatbreads, and sandwiches. The children's menu had all the staples; mac and cheese, chicken tenders, pasta, and hamburgers. Upon arrival all food appeared appetizing, smelled good, was at a warm temperature, and was very flavorful. The portion size of the burger/sandwich was fairly large, with an average sized side dish. The child portions were equal size to adult portion size, which I love, because while my kids could not eat that much in one sitting, we took it to go, and they ate it for dinner. They had full bar selections with festive St paddy's day specials. Value was amazing. For 5 of us to have lunch the bill was under $55, which for a family of 5, is great!
Pros and Cons
Pros were the price, the courtesy and friendliness of staff, the food, and the bar selection, Cons, now keep in mind I was there on a Thursday afternoon, but the crowd seemed to be a more mature crowd, and not particularly geared towards families. That being said, they were incredibly accommodating for our crazy crowd.
Overall Restaurant Rating
Let me be clear on my rating scale here, because I don’t want it to seem harsh. I rate 1-5 stars. If you ever have reviews at your job on their 1-5 scale, it's kind of like that.
1 star = falls below standards
2 stars= needs improvement, falls short of expectations
3 stars = meets expectations
4 stars = exceeds expectations
5 stars = entirely another category of awesome – way above target.
So essentially 3 stars is good, rather than mediocre.
